Hey, I'm Erika!

I Help Women Shed Who They’ve Always Been And Embrace Who They Are Becoming.

Psychotherapist, Change Architect, Collector of Stories and Disruptor of Status Quo, Erika Michelle Cherry,

is on a mission to empower women, especially women of color, to live beyond the narratives of social conditioning and start making intentional choices that lead to the most impactful versions of themselves in life and business.

Erika has over a decade of mental health experience and has led wellness, empowerment, and change conversations on national and international stages, including events with Mission Africa and Seattle GirlTrek.

As CEO of Awaken Wellness, PLLC, Erika guides high performing women executives, entrepreneurs, and creatives on a journey of personal evolution that stirs the awareness and curiosity of the stories that trap them in overwhelm and burnout, all while helping them discover their true values, find their authentic voice, and embrace who they are becoming with confidence and courage.

When Erika is not being a provocateur of change, you can find her in the She Shed wearing sequins, sipping tea, and reading a good book; hanging upside down to get a new perspective on life; dancing with flowers and bees; or listening to the music of giant trolls in the woods. Whatever she’s doing, she’s intentional about nurturing life through story, food that heals (chocolate cupcakes not excluded), and deeper connections with The Divine and her chosen tribe of family and friends.

The She Shed is where I create my own magic.
A pandemic doesn't stop one from finding ways to be fancy
Sequins and high heels while reading during a pandemic... because WHY NOT?
Saturday Mornings mean fuzzy socks, journaling, and warm tea
Just write... the words will come.
Celebrate the leaves that fall from the tree - they lived a good life.
If you dance with flowers, the bees will cut in.
Trust begins in your own body.
When you're stuck, it helps to hang upside down to get a different perspective.
If you see a giant troll in the woods, don't run. Sit for a spell and appreciate what it has to say.
Fuel your body for the work you need to get done.
Eat cake with intention. PERIOD.
Even when life is rocky, find gratitude.
Finding Divine Energy isn't hard... just be still and look around you.

Before I started therapizing ...

I graduated from the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) as a "non-traditional" student - a politically correct way to say I was the oldest in my class - with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. I was 32 at the time, and a single mama of 3 boys. My goal was to finish school before my oldest son graduated high school... DID THAT!

That experience didn't kill me, and my son was hadn't yet graduated, so I set a new goal to complete a Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology from the same university... DID THAT TOO!

Since then, I've set new goals that have accumulated to over a decade of clinical mental health experience by providing services to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families in various settings (community health establishments, schools, psychiatric facilities, detention facilities, corporate and non-profit organizations, and now private practice).

These days, I am leaning into supporting other women of color who may or may not have taken "non-traditional" paths and find themselves in high performing personal or professional roles that make them question the meaning of life (YES FRIEND, I SEE YOU).

I am also opening myself up to creating and accepting more opportunities to spread the message of STORYTELLING, HEALING,  EMPOWERMENT, AND DEVELOPMENT (S.H.E.D).
